Cops: Drunk Woman Arrested for Driving with Two Children in Car

A Wyandanch woman was arrested for allegedly driving drunk down Commack Road while two children with her were calling relatives for help. 

Suffolk County police arrested Mary Kimbrough, 64, on Aug. 24 and charged her with one count of aggravated driving while intoxicated, one count of endangering the welfare of a child, one count driving while intoxicate and with a child under 15 years of age under Leandra's Law.

Police said Kimbrough was driving a 2004 Honda Northbound on Commack Road near Motor Parkway at approximately 9 p.m. Aug. 24. Fourth Precinct Patrol Seargant Jay Veronko said he heard a loud noise coming from Kimbrough's car as it passed.  

Veronko pulled over Kimbrough to discover the Honda's front left tire was missing and had been traveling on the metal rim for some distance, according to police reports. Officers said two children passengers, ages 9 and 11, were using a cell phone in attempts to call relatives for help, prior to police pulling over the vehicle.

Veronko determined Kimbrough was driving while intoxicated, and arrested her at the scene. She has a prior 2009 conviction for driving while intoxicated. 

Kimbrough was arraigned in Central Islip district courts on Saturday. A temporary order of protection was issued and bail was set at $20,000 cash or $40,000 bond. It was not posted as of Saturday.
