Cops: East Northport Man Charged with DWI in Commack

Umberto Correia ignored trooper, drove drunk on Crooked Hill Road, police said.

An East Northport man was arrested Sunday in Commack and charged with driving while intoxicated, depite a state trooper advising him not to drive, police said.

Umberto Correia, 38, was spotted by a state trooper trying to get into a locked Jeep Liberty without keys in a parking lot south of the Long Island Expressway at 4:45 p.m., according to New york State police.

After speaking with the Correia, the trooper determined that he was intoxicated and advised him to call for a ride instead of driving, police said.

Approximately half an hour later, the trooper saw Correia driving the Jeep northbound on Crooked Hill Road, police said. Correia was pulled over for drifting out of his lane and exhibited poor coordination and slurred speeach, police said.

He failed a subsequent sobriety test, according to police.

Correia was charged with DWI and multiple traffic violations. He is scheduled to be arraigned at Suffolk County First District Court on Feb. 21.
