Crimes Nearby: Elwood Student Accosted By Stranger

Suffolk County police reported the following information:

Northport

A 13-year-old student was accosted on the way to her bus stop early Tuesday morning, according to Suffolk County Police.

Three students were reportedly walking along Morris Avenue to their bus stop at Delamere and Broadway around 6:50 a.m. when they encountered a man making threatening physical and verbal gestures. Police say the man approached a girl from behind and grabbed her. She then punched the man, causing him to let her go, and ran to her bus stop with the other children.

Kings Park

Sabyasachi Bose, 53, of Kings Park was arrested Jan. 14 in Smithtown and charged with first offense DWI. Bose was stopped for speeding while traveling eastbound on Route 25 near Caleb Smith State Park in a 2011 Jaguar at 12:15 a.m.

Hauppauge

Stephen Sherman, 69, of Nesconset was arrested Jan. 18 and charged with three counts of grand larceny and three counts of criminal possession of a forged weapon. Police said Sherman falsely represented himself as a Certified Public Accountant to Vista Verde Landscaping and Masonry of Massapequa and wrote out more than $11,000 in checks to himself that should have gone to pay federal taxes, according to police.

Christian Jordan, 19, of Bellport and Jesse Campo, 19, of Patchogue, were arrested Jan. 13 in Hauppauge and charged with disorderly conduct. Police said Jordan and Campo were fighting in a parking lot at Silk night club on Route 347. Jordan is also accused of fighting with the club's staff members, according to police reports.

Frank Kiernan, 47, of Seaford, was arrested Jan. 12 in Hauppauge and charged with first offense DWI. Kiernan allegedly struck a utility pole on Old Willets Path in a 2010 Chevrolet at 2:53 a.m.

Smithtown

Christopher Capolino, 22, of Smithtown was arrested Jan. 14 in Smithtown and charged with seventh degree possession of a controlled substance. Capolino was in the parking lot of Avalon Gardens when he was approached by police and allegedly found to be in possession of an illegal substance.

Pat Toomey, 29, of St. James was arrested Jan. 12 in St. James and charged with second degree menacing. Toomey is accused of holding a knife to another person on Main Street in Smithtown on Dec. 31 and making a demand.

Paul Hylton, Jr., 20, of Central Islip was arrested Jan. 11 in Smithtown and charged with unlawful possession of marijuana. He is accused of possessing the drug in a 2002 GMC on Veterans Highway at 5:10 p.m.

Three Village

Michael Cinarella, 43, of East Setauket, was arrested Jan. 15 at about 12:00 p.m. and charged with first-degree operation of a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs. He was traveling on Lower Sheep Pasture Road in a 2009 GMC when he reportedly crashed into another car and fled the scene. Shortly thereafter, he crossed over a center line, nearly hitting a police car head-on and causing the officer to swerve off the road to avoid a collision, according to a report.

Huntington

Police are searching for a man who stole a phone from the Kmart in Huntington Station last month.

The unknown black male took a T-Mobil pre-paid cell phone worth $149 out of a box, put it into his pocket and left the New York Avenue store Dec. 23, according to police.
