Crimes Nearby: St. James Man Targets Plane, Chopper With Laser Pointer

Suffolk County police reported the following information:

Smithtown

Suffolk County Police arrested a 21-year-old St. James man after they say he pointed a green laser at an airplane and the ensuing police helicopter sent out to determine the laser's location.

David Smith was charged with obstructing governmental administration in the second degree and may face future charges from the New York Port Authority and New Jersey Terrorism Task Force.

Hauppauge

Robin Moran, 40, of Centereach, was arrested Dec. 3 in Hauppauge and charged with third-degree assault and second-degree criminal tresspassing. Moran is accused of punching and slapping a female victim, causing bruising and requiring treatment of the victim at Stony Brook Medical Center.

William Bohn, 58, of Huntington, was arrested Dec. 2 in Hauppauge and charged with third-degree grand larceny. He is accused of withdrawing money from a charity's bank account.

Robert Conti, 45, of Hauppauge, was arrested Dec. 2 in Ronkonkoma and charged with unlawful possession of marijuana.

Richard Hedge, 54, of St. James, was arrested Dec. 1 in Islandia and charged with first offense DWI. Police said Hedge was driving north on Route 454 when in a 2000 Ford when he was stopped by officers and determined to be intoxicated.

Carlo Lopez, 22, of Hauppauge, was arrested Dec. 1 in Islandia and charged with third degree possession of stolen property. Police said Lopez was in possession of a 2002 Acura that had been reported as stolen.

Jovan Abel, 21, of Huntington, was arrested Dec. 1 in Hauppauge and charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of marijuana.

Vaughn Hunt, 22, of Coram, was arrested Nov. 30 in Islandia for first-degree criminal contempt. He is accused of violating an order of protection and punching a female victim in the face.
