Elderly Man Killed on Jericho Turnpike

Salvatore Prianti, 87, of Smithtown, was struck and killed while walking along Route 25 Monday morning.

An elderly Smithtown man was hit and killed while walking along Jericho Turnpike Monday morning.

Salvatore Prianti, 87, was killed when struck by a motorist in front of 994 Jericho Turnpike, just west of Morewood Road, in Smithtown Monday morning, according to Suffolk County police.

Police said Randy Feliciano, 50, of Smithtown, was driving a 2003 Toyota Highlander westbound on Jericho Turnpike/Route 25 in the left-hand lane when he struck Prianti at 4:40 a.m.

Prianti was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by Suffolk County Medical Examiner's office. Feliciano was not injured in the crash.

Police said they are not sure why Prianti was walking along Jericho Turnpike early Monday morning, as the accident is still under investigation.

There are no charges being filed against Feliciano as of 11 a.m., police said. The Toyota was impounded by police for safety checks in compliance with standard police procedures.
