Fatal Crash on Northern State Pkwy

All westbound lanes between Exits 42S and 41 are closed for an accident investigation.

A fatal crash has closed all westbound lanes of the Northern State Parkway from Exit 42S (Deer Park Road in Dix Hills and Deer Park) to 41 (Wolf Hill Road in Dix Hills and South Huntington), Thursday afternoon, New York State Police said.

A preliminary investigation by New York State Police revealed that the driver of a Honda Civic was traveling westbound when the vehicle left the roadway and entered the shoulder, then re-entered the roadway and struck a Honda Accord. The driver of the Civic then lost control and entered the shoulder before striking a tree, police said.

The accident occurred around noon and closed the two westbound lanes of the parkway, according to the Department of Transportation and New York State Police.

The Dix Hills Fire Department extracted the driver from the Honda Civic and transported her to Huntington Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The driver and passengers of the Honda Accord were treated for minor injuries at Huntington Hospital, police said in a release. The identity of the deceased is being withheld until notification to the victim's family.

The westbound lanes of the Northern State Parkway between Exits 42 and 41 remain closed for an accident investigation, police said.
