House Fire Breaks Out on Winston Drive

A first floor house fire started at 9:52 a.m. on Wednesday at 17 Winston Drive in the Smithtown section of Commack. The fire is currently under investigation by the Suffolk County Arson Squad.

The Commack Fire Department rushed to 17 Winston Drive at 9:52 a.m. on Wednesday to battle a  first-floor house fire.

Commack Fire Chief Kieran Keane said the "fire was knocked down in 10 minutes."

At this point the cause of the fire is unclear and the Suffolk County Arson Squad is investigating.

"No one was inside the house and no one was hurt," Keane said.

Commack Fire Department had assistance from members of the Hauppauge Fire Department, Kings Park Fire Department and the Greenlawn Fire Department. No firefighters or civilians were injured.

Neighbor Robyn Tsiokos, of 9 Winston Drive, said "a little after 10:00 a.m., I saw black smoke over that area of the street and when I came outside all the fire trucks were here already."

Long Island Power Authority also had a truck on the scene as well as volunteers from the Commack Ambulance Corp.

The owner of the house, Jason S. Widmer, could not be reached for a comment.
