Flames Erupt at Commack Eatery

Fire scorches kitchen of a Spanish-American restaurant on Commack Road.

A kitchen fire broke out Wednesday at a Spanish-American restaurant on Commack Road.

Chief Rich Myers said that the fire began in the kitchen of Speedy Ray Taco and Grill, in the rear of the restaurant, located at 195 Commack Rd., and spread up a wall and into the roof area around 11 a.m.

Myers said that firefighters cut a hole in the roof to allow for the flames to escape and that the fire was put out within 45 minutes.

There were no patrons in the restaurant at the time of the fire and all of the workers evacuated the building when the fire started, the chief said.

No injuries were reported.
