Funeral Set for Commack Woman Killed in Fire

Kerry Fitzsimons' death is "a tragedy not only for our family, but for society," writes cousin.

Funeral arrangements have been set for Commack native Kerry Fitzsimons, a Marist student who near the college on Saturday.

A wake for the 21-year-old will be held Thursday at on Jericho Turnpike from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

“It’s such a tragedy not only for our family, but for society,” wrote Jaime Celona, Fitzsimons’ cousin, in an email to the Poughkeepsie Journal. “She was so beautiful and intelligent. … I would shout it from the rooftops if I could. Her potential to contribute to the world in a positive manner was limitless.”

Authorities as the cause of Fitzsimons' death. The fire, which also killed two other students in the house, is still under investigation, according to the Poughkeepsie Journal.

Fitszimons' funeral will be held at 9:45 a.m. Friday at St. Matthew’s Roman Catholic Church in Dix Hills.
