Letter: John Engberg, Commack Fire Commissioner Candidate
A member of the Commack Volunteer Fire Department since 1978.
My name is John Engberg. I am running for Fire Commissioner for the Commack Fire District. A position that is responsible for overseeing the spending of OUR tax dollars.
I joined the Commack Volunteer Fire Department in 1978 when I was 18 years old and have been an active member ever since. I rose through the ranks to become Chief of the Fire Department. During my tenure, I commanded our members on September 11, 2001 where I sent our Rescue Truck to the World
Trade Center as well as one of our Ladder Trucks to cover a firehouse in New Yoyk City, all while maintaining protection for the residents of Commack.
I have been a resident of the District since 1962 where I attended Christ the King School (now Holy Family Regional School) and St. Anthony’s High School. I currently have 4 children in Commack Schools.
I am a graduate of Adelphi University with a BBA in Business Management. I worked for MetLife as a Managing Accountant responsible for Budgeting, Expense Analysis & Corporate Accounting where I received my certification in Principles of Life & Health Insurance. I have also been the Fire District Manager for the Centerport Fire District where I was responsible for their paid employees, facilities and apparatus. I am currently a Project Manager for SCC Construction Management overseeing all aspects of facilities additions & renovations for schools, firehouses, churches & hospitals.
The current position of Fire Commissioner I am seeking is not only responsible for all aspects of running a Fire District, it is specific to the employee, facilities and membership insurance coverage and the publically funded Service Award Program. I bring to the table the knowledge and experience necessary for this position.
I have selflessly given to this community for more than 33 years and all I ask from you is your support on December 13th from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Please come out and vote for me to represent you.
Thank you.
