Local Students Earn Scholarships in Memory of Fallen Firefighters

Daniel Paccione is one of seven students to receive a $500 award.

The Town of Huntington Fire Chief's Council recently presented its annual scholarship awards to students affiliated with the town fire and rescue services. 

Daniel Paccione, of Commack, is one of seven students to receive the award.

Paccione is the son of Commack Fire Department Chief Peter Paccione. He attends SUNY Farmingdale, majoring in sports management.

The seven $500 scholarships are awarded annually in the memory of Dix Hills Chief Terry Farrell and Huntington Manor Chief Peter Nelson, both FDNY Rescue Company 4 firefighters who were killed in the line of duty in the Sept. 11 attacks; Huntington Manor Fire Chaplain Richard Holst and Dix Hills Firefighter Walter Hessling who both died in the line of duty in 2009; Huntington Manor Ex-Chief and Commissioner Joe Lynch, Town of Huntington Supervisor's representative Billie Pastore, and Eaton's Neck Assistant Chief Kevin Brandon who passed away last year.
