Northern State Parkway Reopened After Fatal Crash

The road is now open in both directions after a pedestrian was hit and killed in Commack.

The Northern State Parkway is now open in Commack after a fatal crash forced police to close the road Wednesday morning.

New York State police closed the roadway between Exits 42 and 43 after a woman walking along the westbound side of the parkway was hit and killed by a driver at 6:11 a.m.

The road was reopened at 10:23 a.m., Eileen Peters, spokesperson for the Department of Transportation said.

Authorities are continuing their investigation and put out electronic signs on the roadway, asking drivers to call in any information they may have about the incident to New York State Police at 631-231-6389.

Police said that they are searching for a driver in a black sedan who is believed to have hit the pedestrian.

Officials have not yet released the identity of the woman.
