Pedestrian Jumps Off Overpass Onto Long Island Expressway

Condition of the victim is unknown as of 3 p.m.

A pedestrian jumped off an overpass onto the center westbound lane of the Long Island Expressway in Commack Friday afternoon, according to a Suffolk County sheriff's department spokesperson.

The jumper leapt from the overpass of the Sagtikos State Parkway near exit 53 of the LIE at about 1:45 p.m. a spokesperson for sheriff's Chief Michael Sharkey said.

As of 2:30 p.m., a helicopter was on the scene assisting the victim.
