PHOTOS: School Bus Crash Closes Harned Road

Several students were treated and released from hospital with minor injuries Wednesday.

A school bus was involved in an accident with a pick-up truck as it was taking kids home from their first day of school Wednesday afternoon. 

The bus was travelling on Harned Road near Vanderbilt Motor Parkway in Commack when it was struck by the vehicle just after 3 p.m.

Several students went to a nearby hospital to be examined and treated for minor injuries. They were released the same day.

The bus was carrying students from , according to a mother whose daughter was on the bus.

Superintendent Donald James visited the scene after the accident, according to Commack School Dsitrict spokesperson Brenda Lentsch.

Harned Road remained closed near Vanderbilt Parkway from 4:03 p.m. until 5:18 p.m., police said.

Members of the Suffolk County Police Department responded to the scene, as well as the Commack Fire Department and Commack Ambulance Corp.
