Police: Man Drove Drunk With Child in Car in Commack

Jose Bonilla, 38, is arrested on felony DWI charge late Tuesday night.

An East Northport man was arrested on New Year's Eve on a felony DWI charge after State Police say he was driving drunk with a child in his car.

According to police, Jose Bonilla, 38, was driving a Ford Explorer in Commack shortly before midnight when a state trooper saw the vehicle stopped at a red light at the intersection of Crooked Hill Road and Express Drive North.

When the light turned green, Bonilla "failed to proceed through the intersection," police said, and the trooper pulled over the Explorer.

An investigation determined that Bonilla was intoxicated and he was placed under arrested, police said.

The vehicle was also occupied by several members of Bonilla's family, including an 11-year-old child, police said.

Bonilla is charged with felony DWI under Leandra's Law. He was arraigned Wednesday in First District Court in Central Islip and is being held on $15,000 cash bail or $45,000 bond.
