Police: Elderly Coram Man Critically Injured in Commack Crash

Crash occurred Wednesday morning, police say.

A Coram man is in critical condition following a two-crash in Commack Wednesday morning, police said. 

According to police, Richard Shaw, 75, was driving a 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe west on the Long Island Expressway North Service Road when he struck a 2014 Mercury MKS that was traveling north on Commack Road around 11:30 a.m.  

Shaw was transported by Suffolk County Police helicopter to Stony Brook Hospital.

The driver of the Mercury, C.V. Schlesinger, 49, of East Moriches, suffered minor non-life threatening injuries.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks and the investigation is continuing.  Detectives ask anyone with information regarding the crash to call the Fourth Squad at 631-854-8452.
