UPDATED: Police Find Dead Body in Commack Woods

Authorities said the body, which is of a man, has been there for months.

UPDATED 11:22 a.m. – A Long Island Power Authority worker made a gruesome discovery in Commack Tuesday morning when he discovered a dead body in a wooded area near the Indian Head Forest complex, according to police.

Suffolk County Police Det. Sgt. Thomas Groneman said police have confirmed that the body, found in a wooded strip off Indian Head Road, was that of a man and that it likely had been there for several months.

Though they could not determine an apparent cause of death, police said they have not deemed it suspicious. The determination was made based on the remains, its location and several other factors on the scene, Groneman said.
