Westbound LIE Closed Down at Exit 57

Suffolk County police are investigating debris across the roadway.

A section of the westbound Long Island Expressway is closed Monday night due to excessive water and debris on the roadway.

Suffolk County police said they have completely closed the westbound LIE from Exit 57/Veterans Highway west to Exit 55/Motor Parkway due to excessive water and debris on the roadway. The roadway remains closed as of 10:20 p.m. with multiple units on the scene.

Police said they received the first emergency call at roughly 9 p.m. Monday. Early reports were of a water main break, allegedly creating a sinkhole on the westbound service road of the LIE. While there is significant water on the roadway, the source has not been confirmed as of 10:20 p.m., according to police.
