Conservatives Go With Creighton

Endorsement sets up September primary.

The Smithtown Conservative Party on Wednesday endorsed town Councilman Robert Creighton for supervisor, two days after incumbent Supervisor Patrick Vecchio picked up the Republican nod.

The endorsement sets the stage for a September primary, when voters will decided whether the 12-term supervisor or the town councilman will take on Democratic lawyer Steven E. Snair.

According to Newsday, an 11-person council of Conservatives voting Wednesday at the Smithtown Elks Club picked Creighton, who said he plans to win in the September primary.

On Monday night, Vecchio picked up the Republican nomination by 74 votes.
