NYC Recycling Flyer Mix-Up Generates Confusion

Town of Smithtown residents accidentally find city brochure in their mailboxes.

Some Commack residents may have wondered why a New York City recycling flier was put their mailbox over the Fourth of July weekend.

Town of Smithtown officials report several hundred flyers listing new items being accepted for recycling by the city's Sanitation Department were accidentally sent to Suffolk residents, according to the town's website.

The exact number of flyers mailed out to Suffolk residents isn't clear.

Town Hall received has received multiple phone calls from confused residents inquiring about the flyer and new recycling procedures. The bright blue-and-green flyer encouraged residents to recycle more cardboard, metal, plastics and cans due to improvements in the city.

The town's website instructs residents to, "Please disregard this flyer and refer to your Town of Smithtown Refuse Recycling calendar sent previously."

The Town of Smithtown's 2013  Refuse/Recycling Calendar can be found here, along with the town's list of "Recycling Dos and Don'ts."
