Residents Elect a New Fire Commissioner

Pat Fazio has been elected as the newest member of the Commack Fire Department's board.

Eight hundred Commack residents came out on Tuesday to vote for a new fire commissioner and elected Pat Fazio, by a vote of 446 to 354, according to the Commack Fire Department.

Robert Ingram, incumbent and former Chairman of the Board, will finish his term on Dec. 31 and then Fazio will take over. Ingram said the turnout was fair, but may have been affected by the cold weather.

"It was a pretty good turnout. I will continue to be a part of the department and work with Pat to have a smooth transition. I'd like to thank everyone in the community that came out to vote in the cold weather; it is nice to see the community getting involved," Ingram said.

"I'm going to hit the ground running. I want to continue to look at what programs are in place and see where they can be improved. I want to thank the community for giving me a chance to sit on the board," Fazio said.

Both Ingram and Fazio said that the voting process ran smoothly as the Department was able to use the lever-operated machines.
