Smithtown Agenda: Zoning Petitions for King Kullen, Sports Arena

Four public hearings are set for Thursday night's meeting, with four to be advertised for December.

The night town board meeting for the Town of Smithtown is here, set for 7 p.m. at the Eugene A. Cannataro Smithtown Senior Citizen Center. Here's a breakdown of what you could expect from the meeting.

Public Hearings Set for Thursday

There is a packed agenda for Thursday night’s town board meeting, starting off with four public hearings.

First, the town will hear speakers on a new zone petition to amend a past zone petition to expand the residence at the corner of Old Dock Road and Upper Dock Road in Kings Park.

The town will also hear a zone change petition submitted by Indian Head Family, LLC, to change the zone of the property on Indian Head Road, south of Ellen Place, from residential/townhouse (R-6) to residential/garden apartments (RM-GA).

The town has made amendments to numerous codes recently and there will be a public hearing Thursday to hear amendments for another, this time involving fees for building construction.

The final public hearing Thursday night is for the board to consider the community development program for 2012, the 38th year of the program.

Future Advertised Public Hearings

Pubic hearings for future dates will be advertised at Thursday’s meeting, to both town codes and town laws.

Proposed amendments to swimming pool fences, chapter 252-7, and building construction fees, chapter 112-11, would be advertised for a Dec. 13 public hearing at 2 p.m. at town hall.

For town laws, amendment to zoning for signs, law 6-2007, and the building construction law for the residential solar energy fast track application process, law 3-2011, would have the Dec. 13 public hearing date.

Board Could Approve Zoning Petitions for King Kullen, The Sports Arena

King Kullen in St. James could have a zoning petition approved Thursday night from residential (R-10) to central business (CB) for a piece of property on the east side of Washington Avenue.

The zoning petition is needed for the expansion of King Kullen, , most notably back in June when numerous members of the post spoke during a town public hearing, stating the expansion would encroach on the VFW’s land.

The Sports Arena, located at 620 Middle Country Road in St. James, could have a zoning petition approved that would allow the arena to add an outdoor batting cage facility.
