Smithtown Could Make $7,500 Yearly on E-Waste Contract

Town of Smithtown signs new electronic waste management contract with eRevival.

Smithtown town officials hope to save more than $7,000 by signing a new electronic waste management contract that takes effect this Thursday.

Newsday reports that town officials approved a two-year contract with eRevival of Garfield, NJ to collect and destroy used electronic goods. This may include used cell phones, computers, stereos, fax machines and other electronics.

The new e-waste contract replaces the town's previous one with eScrap Electronics of Islandia, according to Newsday.

Under the new contract, New Jersey-based company has agreed to pay the Town of Smithtown 7.8 cents for each pound of scrap metal that they take away. Town environmental director Russell Barnett told Newsday this could net Smithtown approximately $7,500 a year.

It looks like some is getting a little kickback. What plans do they have for the 7500 savings. Somethings fishy.
