Run and Festival Season is Coming, Town Grants Multiple Permits

The season for runs and fairs is quickly approaching, and the town approved permits for three throughout the town to take place in October and November.

The American Cancer Society was granted a permit for the Coach Pat Harmon 5K Run/Walk that will be held on Oct. 23, from 10 a.m. to noon. This is the second annual run in memory of Harmon – .

Another event in October was granted a permit Tuesday, this for Borella’s Farm for the annual Fall Harvest Festival. The festival is set to take place each weekend in October.

A permit was also issued to VFW Post 5796 for the annual , which will be held on Nov. 11 at 10 a.m.

Kennedy, Flanagan Discuss Local Politics and Staying Together as a Community Following 9/11

In the weeks leading up to the 10th anniversary of 9/11, local politicians were vocal in the importance of remembering those who died at Ground Zero as a community and how it changed local politics  – including Legis. John Kennedy Jr., R-Nesconset, and state Sen. John Kennedy, R-East Northport.

and said the attacks forced local government to be more proactive in security measures.

"It's changed the level of commitment we at the county level must have in order to be ever-vigilant and keep our 1.5 million residents safe," he said.

“It is my hope that everyone in our community will come together in whatever way they deem appropriate to reflect on the events of that day, to remember those who died, and to commemorate their lives by showing the world that we remain the strongest and greatest nation in the world,” he said in the letter.

Upcoming Town Meetings

Two meetings are set for the upcoming week – the Board of Zoning Appeals will meet on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Eugene A. Cannataro Senior Citizen Center, and the town board will hold a meeting at the Eugene A. Cannataro Senior Citizen Center on Thursday at 7 p.m.
