Smithtown Officials Approve $8M in Road Improvements

Smithtown Town officials voted to move forward with more than $8 million in road improvements outlined under the town's 2013 Road Program.

Smithtown Town Board unanimously approved Highway Supervisor Glen Jorgensen's 2013 Road Program that includes $8,099,603.49 in roadway improvements for reconstruction of streets, paving, drainage improvements and curb/sidewalk repairs at their Tuesday meeting.

Jorgensen will spend $1.3 million to do a complete reconstruction of several main roadways including Hawkins Ave and Juniper Ave in Smithtown. No Commack roads will be entirely reconstructed.

Under the 2013 Road Program, the town will spend nearly $1.5 million to re-pave Commack roads. The town divided Commack into four sections with North East Commack receiving the largest portion of funding at $472,175.84 closely followed by South West Commack at $427,240.84.

The 2013 Road Program also includes $226,412.50 for microsealing of cracks and small repairs of 5.73 miles of roadway in the town's Central Commack area. Some of the larger roadways that will be mircosealed include Walter Court, Astor Court, Verbenia Drive and Shirley Court.
