Smithtown Officials Host Public Hearing on Uplands at St. Johnlands

Smithtown Town Board to hold public hearings, monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday.

 

Smithtown officials will allow residents to give their input on the environmental impact the Uplands at St. Johnland might have on the surrounding community Thursday night. 

Smithtown Town Board will host its second monthly meeting 7 p.m. Thursday at the Eugene A. Cannataro Center at 7 p.m. Thursday. Public hearings include Uplands at St. Johnland as well as the Building Department's report for October 2012.

St. Johnland Nursing Center in Kings Park has submitted a a draft environmental impact statement to the town in hopes of building a continuing care retirement community according to a report on the Times of Smithtown.

According to the article, the facility would have 24 beds and 175 units would be either townhomes and apartments and be built on 50 wooded acres across from the center, to the south.

A possible land swap where the facility would be built on the former grounds of the Kings Park Psychiatric Center and St. Johnland would give land up for state parkland have been nixed.
