Tropical Storm Watch Issued for Long Island

The first watches have been issued for the area

Tropical Storm Watches have been issued for Long Island, with an expected transition to Hurricane Watches and Tropical Storm Warnings tomorrow. Earl's projected path now has it moving closer and closer to the East Coast, and Commack lies well within the National Hurricane Center's 3 day probability cone.

Latest computer models are bringing the storm's center of circulation closer and closer to central Long Island. Currently Earl is an intensifying Category 4 Hurricane moving to the northwest at 17 MPH. The storm has not taken a forecasted shift to the North, and as such forecasters are concerned that the effects on the East Coast should be far reaching.

In Commack, roads can and will flood with less than a Hurricane, so it is vital that residents don't take the Tropical Storm warning lightly. With flooded roads, travel can become exceptionally dangerous and the risk of damage to homes is fine. Further, tropical storm force wind will blow loose debris around, so be careful around the Mayfair construction site and secure garbage pails and materials in your front yard in the back.
