8th Graders Leading Donation Drive for Long Beach

Middle school students will be collecting items for victims of Hurricane Sandy April 13.

It's been five months since Hurricane Sandy hit and the staff and students of Long Beach Middle School are still picking up the pieces from the storm.

To help their neighboring peers, a group of enthusiastic eighth graders from Commack Middle School, will hold a community garage sale on April 13 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Proceeds will be donated to Long Beach residents and students.

The students formed the group, "Teens Take Action," which will host the event at the Middle School.

"Our students have truly taken the lead in organizing all facets of this event and have coordinated this effort with another Middle Years Programme school, Cedar Park Middle School in Beaverton, Oregon," Anthony Davidson, Principal of Commack Middle School said.

Davidson added that about 50 students from Long Beach Middle School will also be in attendance to work alongside the Commack students on April 13.
