Commack Coalition of Caring's 5K Run/Walk Takes to the Streets Saturday

Lace up your sneakers and race to raise awareness of the dangers of drugs and alcohol in the Commack community.

 

Lace up your sneakers and get ready to race in as 5K Walk/Run takes over Commack streets this Saturday. 

Commack Coalition for Caring will be hosting its annual Red Ribbon Week 5K Walk/Run on Saturday. The mission of Red Ribbon Week is to take a stand for children's hopes and dreams by making a commitment to drug prevention and education, raising awareness of drug and alcohol issues within the community.

Registration on the day of the race will be held starting at 7 a.m. in the lobby of Commack High School. It is $30 per individual for the 5K Walk/Run, $60 per family with maximum of four people, and $100 for a youth team rate for up  to 8 members of youth or school sports team to run together. 

Runners will start at the corner of Scholar Lane and Townline Road at 9 a.m. The pack will head north on Townline Road, then turn right on Marshmellow Road. The course then turns right on Caramel Road, followed by a left on Hayrick Road until it reaches Scholar Lane.

Start2Finish will be timing the race to keep track of the results. The overall top male and female finishers will receive trophies. The top three finishers in each of the following age groups will receive medals: 11 and under; 12 – 14; 15-19; 20-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; 60-69; 70+, wheelchair athletes.  

For the safety of all participants, the Commack Coalition of the Caring has asked there be no skates, baby strollers, baby joggers or animals on the race course. 

All proceeds from the 5k Walk/Run will go towards a scholarship for a graduating Commack High School Senior.
