Commack High School senior Josiah Hyun Oh has been named a finalist in the 2012 National Merit Scholarship Corporation competition.
Oh is among the top half of the one percent highest-scoring entrants in the 2011 PSAT exams, and now has the opportunity to compete with the country's brightest students for 8,400 National Merit Scholarships, which are worth a combined $36 million.
An International Baccalaurette candidate, Oh maintains at weighted averge of 103 and is a member of the Suffolk County All-Star Math Team, as well as an award-winning Science Olympiad.
"It is fair to say that Josiah is good at everything. Beyond his academic achievements, Josiah is a highly valued member of our school community," said Guidance Counselor Paul Thurman in a statement.
After school, Oh intends to pursue a career in mathematics.
