Commack Ranked 18th Among NY High Schools

U.S. News & World Report ranks Commack HIgh School as one of the top 100 high schools in the nation.

 

The U.S. News & World Report rankings placed Commack High School as among the top 100 high schools in the United States. 

Commack High School is ranked No. 18 in the state out of 1,165 high schools, earning it a gold medal, according to rankings released Tuesday. The rankings are determine based on college readiness, math and English proficiency, and student-to-teacher ratio.

Commack scored 74.2 in a college readiness, ranking well above the state average. The college readiness index is based 83 percent of students testing for the International Baccalaurette classes and 71 percent passing at least one exam. A full list of the student test scores can be found here. 

These scores were high enough to rank Commack High School No. 1 in Suffolk County and No. 95 across the nation.

"It is an amazing honor for Commack High School to be named one of the Best 100 High Schools in the nation, an honor bestowed upon the entire community.  Key players in this accomplishment include students, teachers,  administrators, staff, the Board of Education, parents, and residents - all of whom had a hand in attaining this significant recognition," Superintendent Dr. Donald James said. "Clearly, Commack is meeting and exceeding all standards and preparing students for success after high school. Congratulations are in order for the entire community! Again, thank you to everyone who played a role in this accomplishment. It is a proud day in Commack!" 

New York has hundreds of schools in the U.S. News Best High Schools 2012 rankings, including 68 with gold medals, 174 with silver medals, and 128 with bronze medals, according to the report.
