Commack School Budget Passes

Tax levy for $166 million budget approved at 2.96 percent.

Commack voters on Tuesday passed a $166 million school district budget by a vote of 2680-1585.

By passing the budget, homeowners within the Commack Central School district will pay a tax levy of 2.96 percent in the coming year.

Also decided in the election,  beat  for the board of education seat left open by the .

Despite a 9 percent dip in state and federal aid, the district managed to avoid teachers layoffs or increases in class size. Instead, the budget cuts two assistant superintendents and several custodians and maintenance workers.

At the same time, the budget will reinstate several intramural sports and school clubs for a year and covers a 4-year lease purchase agreement for new computers.
