Commack Schools Closed Monday

Just under 5,000 homes still without power as of Sunday afternoon.

The Commack School District has announced that no classes will be held Monday as thousands in the community remain without power, and will open four schools in the district as warming sites.

Commack schools were out all last week due to the destructive superstorm.

Commack High School, Commack Middle School, Sawmill Intermediate and Burr Intermediate schools will be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. to serve as warming sites and charging stations for the public. They will remain open during those hours until school commences, at which point the hours will be curbed back until 4 to 8 p.m.

A message from Superintendent d James stated the following: "While a number of our schools now have power, it is sometimes intermittent. Further complicating matters is the shortage of gasoline as well as continued hazardous conditions on the roads. After carefully considering the many factors involved, we have decided to close schools on Monday, Nov. 5. A decision regarding Tuesday, Nov. 6th, will be made as early as possible tomorrow. Know that if you have relocated temporarily, are still without power or worse, we will not penalize students for non-attendance once school resumes."

At last check on Sunday, the  in Commack.

Commack should be revolting. Have not seen a Lipa truck on my block yet. We have to close the schools for 6 days. Where are all the people we voted for to help out with information and get the job done....

LIPAsuction says we're all almost all back up? We were up - until LIPA turned it off late afternoon to clear trees on live lines, but didn't send a pole truck to replace 2 broken poles. Now, except for generators, our block is dark again, surrounded by many dark blocks. And we have no clue, as expected, when new poles will come.
As to the schools, lots of hot air from James and the board, little info. In the meantime, does anyone know if Cedar Road School has power? It's a major polling place.

If we still had the old manual, lever, voting machines, we could vote tomorrow, no matter the power issue.
I have been getting daily e-mail alerts from the supt and the board, which is more than I can say about LIPA nd the Town of Huntington

Its really crazy they say there are only 4600 outages what a lie. All you have to do is drive around and you will see Commack is a War Zone. No LIPA trucks anywhere and more than half the town is still out. Nine days later

Joe: I don't think they will give you any contact info just in case you turn out to be some sort ofRead More kook or stalker. How would you like to be responsible for that security breach?

Might want to google her and see what she's all about.

I know exactly what she's about and that's why I'm trying to spread the word. She confronts theRead More lies and the deceit in the Affordable Care Act. And that needs to be brought to the forefront
