Commack Schools Closed Wednesday

All afterschool activities are also canceled.

The Commack School District announced that its buildings will be closed Wednesday in anticipation of continued inclement weather.

All after-school and evening activities are also canceled.

About 4-inches of snow have fallen in Commack as of 7:20 p.m. Tuesday and more powder is expected to accumulate overnight and into Wednesday morning.

The entire Long Island and New York City area is expected to be hit with between 8- and 12-inches of snow, according to Joey Picca, meteorologist with the National Weather Service, with snow falling at a rate of one to two inches per hour into the late evening on Tuesday.

Temperatures are expected to continue to slowly decrease Tuesday evening across New York City and Long Island, hovering in the mid to upper teens and dropping throughout the evening.

The wind chill at around 10 p.m. is expected to make it feel as thought temps are hovering around zero, and falling to subzero overnight.

I understand that but still looking foward to February vacation , April vacation and I have plenty of paid sick days so when it snows I can call in and get paid!!!! While you shovel yourself out to get to work! Sucker!!!!!!!! O ya and summer is right around the bend!!!!
Doc January 22, 2014 at 04:12 PM
Funny enough I don't work for your district. Thank god!
Doc January 22, 2014 at 04:15 PM
And unlike you I am accountable. You as a common core rep should know that. Clearly you're not so good at your job if you didn't.
Doc January 22, 2014 at 04:17 PM
Kim- enjoy your breaks!!! Jealousy is a disease. Don't let him bother you. So much hate because he can't build a snow man.
knee jerk January 22, 2014 at 04:21 PM
Kim: Your cavalier response to the snow day issue is exactly what the problem is. I have skin in the game (resident taxpayer) and would like a little more accountability and not have your perks that I help pay for thrown back in my face. Obviously you feel they are excessive also, or you wouldn't be bragging about them to try to gall me, especially here on a public forum.
kim January 22, 2014 at 04:23 PM
Common core uggggg another reason these children need school psychologist !!!!!!
kim January 22, 2014 at 04:29 PM
Again you are jealous!!!! I know that everyday I am expected to be at work I am there and do the job that is expected!!!!! I have no problem looking foward to vacations that are approved by my board of Ed!!!!!!!
Doc January 22, 2014 at 04:29 PM
Knee jerk- let me ask you. Are the teachers in the NYC schools in this same category? Because they had to go to work today.
kim January 22, 2014 at 04:38 PM
Again it's not about the teachers having a day off don't you think the Superintendent thinks about all you taxpayers that will cry and moan when the call the day!!!! The bottom line why they call snow days is for safety of the children!!!!!!! How do you expect buses to drive in treacherous conditions and have children wait on bus stops in sub zero temperatures!!!
knee jerk January 22, 2014 at 04:44 PM
Kim: I think if Commack teacher salaries, (I still like salary's) were posted, most taxpayers would agree they are excessive and not reflective of society in general. That 3% tax cap on school districts was instituted for this very reason, as salaries and benefits are the major costs of education. You've got the Governor of this state coming down on you with a vengeance, you should be embarrassed, not acting like a peacock. Every dog has his day, and right k now, you and "Doc" are the top mutts.
Doc January 22, 2014 at 04:48 PM
Knee jerk- they are listed.
Doc January 22, 2014 at 04:52 PM
We are the only profession that is available at any time. It's in news day. You also forget to take into account the amount of money we had to pay to get these salaries. I guess doctors get paid too much too right?
knee jerk January 22, 2014 at 04:55 PM
If it's about student safety, by all means let them stay home, but maybe the teachers could come in and perhaps do some paper grading or tiding up or department conferences or common core refreshers or whatever else it is that they do? The gym teachers can, however, stay home as they are merely an "athletic hall monitor".
Doc January 22, 2014 at 04:57 PM
Good one knee jerk! Did you fail phys ed in school? Couldn't walk straight?
Doc January 22, 2014 at 04:58 PM
Maybe In your district they are. You couldn't hack it in my class.
Doc January 22, 2014 at 04:58 PM
Or did you get cut from the intramural team?
Doc January 22, 2014 at 04:59 PM
Thank you for keeping me entertained while I was home today. Get back to that common core!
knee jerk January 22, 2014 at 05:01 PM
Doc: Corporal punishment has been banned in this state for many years, even in your Neanderthal-like gym class.
kim January 22, 2014 at 05:02 PM
We don't need go in and do those things we take that work home to do it and don't get paid for it!!!!! As for the gym teachers you are talking about their jobs are just as important ! They teach the children how to be healthy eat well and exercise to keep your health insurence cost down!!!!!! If it wasn't for them people would be complaining how fat our children are and blaming someone probably the teachers for it!!!!
Doc January 22, 2014 at 05:04 PM
Hahahahahahaha hahahahahahaha. Aww you're hilarious. Hit a nerve? Now it's corporal punishment. You clearly haven't even stepped in a classroom. Same people who should be making the rules.... The ones who never even step foot to see wha they're judging. I love it. Enjoy your life. I have to go it's been fun.
Doc January 22, 2014 at 05:05 PM
Kim- he clearly has no idea. Typical.
knee jerk January 22, 2014 at 05:13 PM
Kim: What planet did you just arrive from? They are complaining how fat and uneducated our children are and the country needed health reform (Obama care) before it bankrupted itself (but you wouldn't know anything about that since your heath care bill is paid in full by the taxpayers). If we have to rely on gym teachers to whip us into shape how do you explain the exploding fitness gym industry in this country?
kim January 22, 2014 at 05:13 PM
Yes I agree knee jerk I see you alot on here making dumb comments!!! It's been real fun this gave me something to do on my snow day I'm going to live my real life and get ready to educate the future tommorow!!! Stay well doc as for you knee jerk your name says it all PEACE!!!!!
knee jerk January 22, 2014 at 05:28 PM
Thanks for sharing that with me Kim. I enjoyed this too and will be looking forward to your next (and last) snow day. Next time bring a few more of your teacher friends. Now that I have "spell check" I feel I can take on a few more of you pompous a--holes.You know Kim, you and Doc bailing off the Patch at the same time is a little suspicious. It's not a "booty call is it?"
kim January 22, 2014 at 05:36 PM
Maybe it is???!!! Please work on your jealousy and hope that your wife didn't have a rough day without child care I mean school in session and gives you a little you really need to relax
Doc January 22, 2014 at 05:39 PM
Hahahahaha Kim you're awesome! Sad that he is that much of an insecure a--hole that he needs to revert to sex. Go kiss your wife if you're lucky enough to have one. Because you do need luck clearly to throw sexual digs.
Doc January 22, 2014 at 05:40 PM
And Kim... This is why we are still employed. To make sure children actually grow up. Sad to see you haven't knee jerk.
knee jerk January 22, 2014 at 05:44 PM
I was relaxed, until you mentioned that bi_ch. No hard feelings though Kim, most people think their job is very important and that it couldn't be done without them, until they get laid off and find out it can be done.
Doc January 22, 2014 at 05:44 PM
Kim- clearly this guy has a lot of time on his hands. Not only is he posting here. He's posting his hatred everywhere. Want to talk about evaluating jobs. Clearly you're not getting enough pay to sit here and bash teachers. Let's raise his salary!
knee jerk January 22, 2014 at 05:53 PM
Now you're on the right track, Doc. And I thought you couldn't evaluate talent unless it was a left handed pitcher, throwing in the high 80's with a 6-12 breaking ball. Raise my salary, the more you make the less you do. Kick me upstairs, I love it.
