Commack Student Wins MSG Varsity's Talent Show

Matthew Mayer won best vocalist in the Long Island regional competition.

Matthew Mayer was awarded the title of Best Vocalist in the MSG Varsity Talent Show during the show's season finale Sunday night.

Mayer, who is currently wrapping up his senior year at Commack High School, beat out hundreds of show applicants and outlasted 16 other contestants in an intense seven-week competition.

Mayer chose to perform "I Need A Lover" by John Mellencamp while playing keyboard in the finals rounds, which won over enough hearts and online votes to put him in first place.
