Commack Student Wins Music Camp Scholarship

Justin Cheung will spend his summer at the Usdan Performing Arts Camp.

While many teens spend their summers working or attending camp, one of Commack's top student musicians will be studying at a prestigious performing arts camp.

Commack High School junior Justin Cheung will spend his summer studying at the Usdan Center for the Creative and Performing Arts, thanks to a scholarship program offering students with exceptional musical talent the chance to study and perform at the school.

Cheung has studied the violin for eight years, and is very active in school as a member of the Tri-M Music Honor Society, the Model United Nations, the Commack High School Chamber and the National Junior Honor Society. A triple threat, he is also a competitive swimmer, and in 2010 became the record holder for the 50 Meter Freestyle event in the Metro JCC Swimming Invitationals. He was a thee-year medalist in the Long Island Math Fair, and he has been selected as an All-County violinist for the past four years.
