Commack Students Raise Money for Equine Therapy

Middle schoolers read books to fund scholarships for Pal-O-Mine Equestrian in Islandia.

Students from Commack Middle School participated in a reading program in the beginning of the school year to raise money for Pal-O-Mine Equestrian, an equine therapy organization based in Islandia.

Pal-O-Mine offers therapeutic equine programs using interaction with horses to facilitate growth, learning, and healing for children and adults with disabilities. They also assist victims of abuse or neglect and war veterans.

Inspired by Commack Middle School sixth grade science teacher Diane Flynn, who has volunteered at the organization for the last six years, school administrators designed a program for students to benefit Pal-O-Mine.

The sixth graders signed up sponsors who agreed to donate a specific amount for each book during the first marking period of the school year. They also sold wristbands.

In total, the initiative raised over $3,200 for Pal-O-Mine. The money will be used to provide scholarships for equine therapy for disabled students.
