Students Win Big at Business Leadership Competition

Students took home several awards and scholarships based on their performances at Farmingdale State University on Wednesday.

Twelve students from took home awards from the Young Professionals Chamber of Commerce's eighth annual Business Leadership Competition at SUNY Farmingdale on Wednesday. 

YPCC is a program run by the  and it allows students to showcase their leadership talents in several areas of business including advertising, sports management and hospitality. 

More than 180 students competed from a variety of districts including Commack, Northport, John Glenn, Huntington, Harborfields, Walt Whitman, Deer Park, Half Hollow Hills East, Half Hollow Hills West, Huntington, Western Suffolk BOCES, St. Dominic's, Oyster Bay and Farmingdale.

"This program has become an integral part of the high school curriculum. It clearly reinforces the value and impact that it has for our local students, teachers and school districts," Linda Mitchell, executive director of the YPCC, said.

Commack students were accompanied by their faculty directors – Ana Tuzzolino and Robert Plechner – and many of the students are enrolled in IB Business Management and Entrepreneurship classes.

Commack had two teams, with two members each, in each area the students selected for competition. 

The 12 winners, and two scholarship winners, are: 

First Place

Sarah Holzberg and Dianna Felberbaum - Sales Demonstration
Kirsten Fischl and Alyssa Stalzer - Entrepreneurship
Jordan Siegler and Anthony Squeglia - Sports Marketing
Michael Brodsky - Job Interview - Special Needs
Dan Scholem and Vinny Daigger - Sports Management 

Second Place

Hunter Smith and Daniel Paulson - Hospitality
Jack Watkins - Interviewing 9th - 10th Grade

Honorable Mention

Joe Meloro and Justin Tampellini - Advertising

Verizon Scholarships, valued at $250 each
