Project HEAL Eating Disorder Parents Network Support Group

Project HEAL is offering a monthly Suffolk County support group for parents and other loved ones (18 and over) of eating disorder sufferers. Facilitated by parents of recovered sufferers, these groups are a great emotional outlet for parents and loved ones and a place to meet others who are coping with the same hardships. Additionally, the groups feature regular guest speakers, including doctors, psychologists, and nutritionists, who share practical and helpful techniques to help support your loved one and encourage him or her in recovery.

Please RSVP to projectheal.ed@gmail.com if you wish to attend.

If you have further questions, please email projectheal.ed@gmail.com or call 631-739-4697.

Project HEAL: Help to Eat, Accept and Live (www.theprojectheal.org) is a not-for-profit organization founded by three teenage girls who fully recovered from eating disorders. The group raises money for others with eating disorders who are not able to afford treatment, and tries to diminish the societal obsession with body image that helps contribute to eating disorders. Project HEAL has raised over $130,000 to date through fundraisers, grants, private donations, and merchandise sales, and has sent five applicants to treatment. The founders also speak regularly at high schools, hospital programs and panel talks, sharing their personal stories and educating peers on eating disorders.

Additionally, they serve as mentors to both young girls who are battling eating disorders and “normal” teenage girls who experience low self-esteem, and also serves as a consultant to parents, siblings, friends, and treatment providers dealing with these disorders
