Five Students Will Compete at Intel Fair

Commack students will face competitors from 40 countries.

Five Commack High School students have earned a trip to the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in May.

Savina Kim, Erica Portnoy and Marni Wasserman earned top honors at the Long Island Science and Engineering Fair held at The Crest Hollow Coutry Club in Woddbury in March. Kim won Frist Place Grand Award for Biochemistry, while Portnoy received the First Place Grand Award for Microbiology and Wasserman earned the First Place Grand Award for Earth Science as well as an Association for Women Geoscientists Student Excellence Award.

At the New York State Science and Engineering Fair at the New York Hall of Science on April 5, Matthew Kim won First Place in Environmental Management and Rebecca Alford received First Place in Cell and Molecular Biology. Alford won Best in Fair.

The students will travel to the Intel Fair in Los Angeles from May 8 to May 14 where they will compete with more than 1,400 students from 40 nations for scholarships and tuition grants.
