I'm voting no
John Gruber May 03, 2012 at 08:24 PM
everyone should vote no until they figure out how to stop losing more and more despite being given more and more
Michael May 04, 2012 at 01:46 PM
The only thing a yes vote does is perpetuate the myth that our kids come first. I will be voting NO.

Voting no!!! Taxes have to stop increasing due to teacher salaries and benefits. Everyone has to cut back when times are tough. No raises till we can afford to give them. I am an unemployed teacher and trying to keep my home. I feel teachers need to acknowledge they are lucky to have such a high paying job and be happy with what they have. Stop trying to get more money from the community when the community is struggling. I am praying for better times but for now we need to work together and make the best out of this situation. Voting no. I've had no raises for years, have been unemployed quite a while, the teachers keep getting big raise after big raise, the bosses even more. Enough is enough!
Commack Cares May 04, 2012 at 03:36 PM
Just remember that even if you vote no - the teachers will still get their raises. The no vote does not stop that fact. It will only cause more teachers to get laid off and more programs to be cut.
commack resident May 04, 2012 at 03:56 PM
The board needs to communicate with the teachers and let them know the community is struggling and higher salaries means higher taxes. People will move because the taxes are too high. Less teachers will be needed because less people are attracted to this neighborhood. Be carefull what you wish for......

I will be voting no as well. This will be the first year in over 30 years that I will be voting no. I've been a Commack resident with children out of school for 10 years now. The school district MUST cut out the bulk of adminstration. Ask yourselves WHY are there 3 Assistant Principals in the High School and Middle School. Can't 1 do the job? If not they are not the person for the job. CUT THE FAT OUT!!

The only way the budget will fail is if there's a big voter turnout... most people don't bother voting... I hope that at the very least Guber doesn't get re-elected, at least then there' s a chance 3 out the 5 who makeup the board can be changed by next year.. Queen Masciello and Prince Pennachio have been there way toooooo long!
Michael May 04, 2012 at 09:29 PM
Then let that be on the teachers heads for not renegotiating. A yes vote says that you are OK with the way the Board has handled this district. They have sold out our kids to enrichen those at the top and its wrong. VOTE NO
Michael May 04, 2012 at 09:33 PM
Tell everyone you know to get out and vote. Oh, dont forget to tell them about all the perks the Super locked up for himself before the budget s*** hit the fan this year. That usually makes people see red. If you work for a paycheck and get less than 40 vacation days a year, VOTE NO!!!!!
CommackMom May 04, 2012 at 09:42 PM
Does Queen Masciello even have kids in the district anymore. She was there over 10 years ago and one of her kids was my kids age and she's out of school over 10 years.

The BOE presents a falsehood that a defeated budget means a contingency budget. The community can, in fact, exert its will on all parties and require changes to restore teachers, programs, and coaches. If all parties don't cooperate then they will face the ire of the community during future negotiations, or in the form of a recall of the entire Board, new leadership, etc. There are options folks. The power is with the people of this community, not with those that work here. This Board has just done a good job of confusing the issue.

Does anyone else think that the current super is just a badly over paid puppet for the board majority? JF could think for himself. JH was known mainly for playing patty cakes with a certain union pres and for getting his car waxed daily at taxpayer expense. I've thought him to be a puppet since the first time I talked to him and I could swear it was MJ's words coming out of his mouth. At any rate, I won't vote in favor of the budget or for any of the power block members as they come up for the umpteenth reelection. No more - I've had enough. As to MJ, aka the Queen, she truly seems to believe that she is the only person capable of doing the job.
Elizabeth May 06, 2012 at 07:04 PM
I will be voting YES. Voting no will do nothing to effect any kind of change with regard to teachers' salaries; a failed budget only HURTS THE KIDS. The climate is slowly changing with regard to teachers' salaries and benefits; but in the meantime, don't let the kids lose programs and have even larger classes than they do already.
Michael May 06, 2012 at 09:57 PM
Youre kidding, right? Youre kids are losing out now. They lost out last year and the year before that. Guess who didnt lose though. The super and everyone else with a contract. Plenty of money for them, but your kids cant even go to a club.
Michael May 06, 2012 at 09:59 PM
Hey Elizabeth. Voting no says you do not approve of the job being done by the Board and the super. Take a look at the budget, your kid is already going to get hurt
Michael May 06, 2012 at 10:04 PM
Oh Cares, if the people vote no, doesnt the Board have the option of presenting a revised budget that does not cut more programs? HMMMMMMM????????
