Last Chance: Run for Commack's Board of Ed

Candidates must turn in their petitions by April 16 at 5 p.m.

Commack residents who want to make a difference and see changes in Commack School District have until Monday to step forward. 

Commack school district  is accepting petitions from potential Board of Education candidates for the upcoming elections through April 16 at 5 p.m.

There will be one trustee seat up for re-election at the polls on May 15. Cice President Deborah Guber is up for re-election this year.

Those interested can pick up packets at the district clerk's office at Hubbs Administration Center on Clay Pitts Road. 

In order to be eligible to become a trustee, you must be at least 18 years old , a resident of Commack school district for at least one continuous year leading up to the election and a qualified voter. In addition, you must not have been removed from any school office in the past year, cannot be a family member residing with a current board trustee, an employee of the school board or hold another incompatible public office.

Challengers must collect at signatures from at least 85 Commack residents in order to run for school board, according to district spokeswoman Brenda Lentsch. Certain conditions may apply for signatures to count towards the total.
