New Superintendent: Community, Schools Need to Connect

Dr. Donald James, a parent and new Commack Union Free School District superintendent, wants parents, residents and others interested in the community to host and take part in meet-and-greets.

Dr. Donald James knows the education provided by Commack Union Free School District first hand – he is a parent and the new superintendent.

"I think we're number one. I have three children in the district, one who just graduated from the high school and two still in the system. Everything I knew from the outside, I'm learning–first-hand–is actually true. Even though it was the end of the year, I had positive, exceptional conversations with administrators and saw a lot of extraordinary programs," James said.

The community, James said, is very engaged, but "might like to hear more about what is going on."

"I will be coming out and meeting with families to discuss what the district is doing. You don't have to have children in the district for me to meet with you, I'd like to meet all members of the district. I want to connect the community with the school district," James said.

James said parents are welcome to host the events or come out to ones already scheduled, which will be announced.

"As I move forward my intention is to know the school and engage the community. Please feel free to e-mail me," James said.

As for the Marion Carll property, James said there is a lot to learn.

"I will look at the property and work diligently to find a plan that will benefit the district and the residents," James said.
