North Ridge Students Volunteer at a Food Pantry

North Ridge Primary students donated food for Thanksgiving baskets to St. Anthony's Food Pantry in East Northport.

Two book buddies classes at decided to celebrate Thanksgiving by visiting the St. Vincent de Paul Parish Outreach Food Pantry program at and by donating food for Thanksgiving baskets for local families.

Maureen MacKenzie's second grade class and Susan Eberhardt's first grade class participated in the program. The classes visited the pantry and Lisa DiGiglio, volunteer, presented the children with the history of the society, which dates back to the middle ages.

DiGiglio said 150 local families shop in the pantry each month, with all the food donated by individuals in the communities. She said certain items – like rice, spaghetti, cereal, canned meat, fruits and vegetables, peanut butter and toiletries – are always needed. The classes will continue to participate in community service programs throughout the year.
