Relay For Life Kicks Off Tuesday

The annual American Cancer Society fundraiser is off and running at Commack High School.

It's a new year, and a new chance to kick cancer to the curb.

Relay for Life of Commack will celebrate its Kick Off event on Tuesday, Jan. 15 at Commack High School, at 7 p.m.

The event will not only start the cancer fundraiser, but will celebrate the teams dedicating themselves for the Relay for Life experience.

"The kick off event is motivating, exciting and an inspiration that gets every one's hands up and ready to go," Valerie Giannoulis, co-coordinator of the event said.

So far, there are already 20 teams and 70 participants in the fundraiser, which will culminate on May 10, when more than a thousand Commack residents will put on their gym sneakers for an overnight walk and fundraiser.

Relay for Life honors cancer survivors and remembers lost loved ones. It also raises awareness about what can be done to prevent and help end the disease.

All members of the community are invited to attend and learn more about the fundraiser. Students are encouraged to bring their parents, friends and neighbors.
