Sawmill Students Bag Lunches for Charity

Children decorated and filled lunch bags to feed families at Middle Island Homeless Shelter.

In lieu of a Thanksgiving party, two classes at decided to spend their time bagging and decorating lunches to donate to local families in need.

The students decorated lunch bags with colorful, festive decorations and filled them with mac-n-cheese, juice, pretzels, chips, and fruit cups. All of the items were donated by parents in place of extra food for the students to eat during the Thanksgiving party.

"Every day the students learn about math, science, reading, etc., but this lesson is not one you can find in a textbook or on a test and to top it all off…it put a smile on our faces and the faces of the people receiving these goodies," said teacher Michelle Goldstein, whose students, along with Susan Reers',  participated in the special party.
