Suffolk Legislator Honors Commack Intel Finalist

A Commack High School senior received a prestigous recognition from Suffolk County Legislature for her scientific research. 

Savina Kim, 17, received a Proclamation from Suffolk Legis. Steven Stern, D-Huntington, for being selected as a Intel finalist at the legislature's March 27 general session meeting. 

 “The Intel Science Talent Search competition is one of the most rigorous and well respected academic programs in the nation,” Stern said in a statement.  “I congratulate Savina, members of the faculty, Research Department and the Commack School District on this remarkable achievement.  I am certain that Savina will have great success in college and in her future endeavors."

Kim was selected as one of 10 students in New York State and one of only 40 students across the nation-wide pool of 1,839 applicants to be chosen as finalists. She researched the topic, "Cognitive Deficits in Neuropsychiatric Disorders: A Schizophrenia Model Associated with Neuronal Alpha7 Nicotinic Acetylcholine Receptor Localization."
