Storm Threat Causes Commack School District to Close

School district makes hurricane-related announcement on Sunday evening.

Commack school officials made the decision to cancel classes due to the potential threat of Hurricane Sandy. Commack School District will be closed on Monday and Tuesday.

School officials issued the following announcement on Sunday evening:

Given the forecasts, the possibility of wide-spread power outages, and concerns for student and staff safety, we are closing Commack schools on Monday, October 29, and Tuesday, October 30. If necessary, we will post additional information on our website and make robo calls in an effort to keep you informed. As this storm progresses, please stay safe and lend a helping hand to neighbors and the elderly who may be in need.

The district has said any additional information will be first sent out via phone message to all telephone numbers on file. Emails will then be sent via the email notification system and posted on the district's website.

Lets get real people. There are certain workers who are going to be out there because there job is to protect the property. If a window is smashed or an alarm tripped, it is the job of the maintenance staff to MAINTAIN to premises. That being said, to all those that have to be out there today such as police, LIPA and Keyspan workers, etc....be careful and above all else, watch for your own safety.

So you are saying if a window is smashed in an empty school that these workers should put themselves in danger and fix it during a hurricane??????

Multiple uses of the word 'there' and most are wrong. If you use 'there' often enough you will be right once in a while. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut now and then. Here are your choices: they're, there and their. Multiple choice. U Pick 'em! I'm starting to think you two took too many days off from school when you were kids!

There is a big difference between maintenance and Emergency Work, no? The teachers and entire district besides that department are all given a day off to tend to THEIR personal needs and families...I am sure it is easy to pick apart people's messages when you are a stay at home Mom with nothing else to do. How about reading THEIR messages and listen to what they are saying. Its just another example of that department being treated like dirt... They cannot even get a cost of living raise when all the top heavy Administrators took THEIR'S.
