Students Construct New Sign for Rolling Hills Primary

Hand-crafted mosaic will decorate the entrance to the school.

Students at unveiled a new mosaic sign that will adorn the school's entrance Friday afternoon.

The sculptural sign was constructed by the entire Rolling Hills student body under the mentorship of Esther Tollen, a Long Island-based mosaic and tile artist with Earth Designs.

During a week-long workshop sponsored by the Rolling Hills PTA, students learned about ancient and modern mosaic design and applied a variety of materials including hand-fired tiles, glass and stones to the sign, which depicts a landscape scene designed by Tollen and Rolling Hills Principal Janet Studley.
