These 13 School Districts Have the Highest Tax Levies on Long Island

Is your district on the list?

Long Island has high taxes, with the bulk of local tax bills made up of school costs from any one of the 125 school districts on Long Island. But how does your district stack up when it comes to the levy it places on taxpayers?

We've compiled a list of the 13 Long Island school districts with the highest tax levies, using 2013 data from the New York State Comptroller's department of local government and school accountability. The report uses data compiled from the state's Office of Real Property Services.

We've also included kindergarten to 12th grade enrollment for each district as a comparison, using the latest data available from the New York State School Report Card.

These tax levies represent the amount of money taxpayers are asked to cover in each community, but do not mean locals in these communities pay the highest taxes in the region. Areas where large businesses or utilities cover a large amount of the levy can have lower taxes than places with smaller tax levies. Look for our list on the highest tax rates in the next few days.
